Sadly, cat
rescue is not all about finding homes for adorable little kittens. There
is a much bleaker and overwhelmingly sad aspect to cat rescue that goes
unnoticed by many.
One of the main mandate’s of Cause 4 Paws is its
“trap/sterilize/rehome-or-release” program for feral cats, with the
goal of ending the suffering caused by the overpopulation of homeless cats
and their offspring.
Cause 4 Paws is currently working behind an apartment block on Sources
Blvd., where a colony has yielded one traumatic story after another. All
the females rescued so far have been pregnant, or have already had their
kittens. Callie II (above) showed up the day after her kittens were
rescued, badly injured, either from human cruelty, or from having been
impaled under under a fence. Callie II’s kittens had been nursing, in
spite of her gaping wound, and after a week of intensive treatment at the
vet, Cause 4 Paws remains in awe of Callie II’s courage, pain
tolerance and maternal instinct.
As well as raising awareness about the plight of feral cats and kittens,
Cause 4 Paws is trying to raise funds to help with all the vet bills, and
to continue its endeavours to help the cats nobody cares about. If you can
help, whether by adopting or fostering cats and kittens, or providing
funding, please call 514-684-4810.
